Carlos y Vanessa asistieron a la misma secundaria y preparatoria en Brownsville, Texas. Como nos conocimos:
Carlos and Vanessa attended the same middle school and high school in Brownsville, TX. However, they didn't really show interest in each other until Carlos’s senior year and Vanessa’s junior year. Carlos was probably too busy with school and Vane too busy with friends. They started off as really good friends, or so Vane thought. Even after asking her out to every school dance, Vane was still in complete denial that Carlos had a crush on her. Vane was sure nothing could come of it since it was Carlos's senior year of high school.
After some convincing, Vane agreed to try long distance while Carlos went to college. They dated for 6 months before Carlos went to college and long distance began. By then, they both knew this was no longer a “let’s see where this goes” situation. Carlos went to Texas A&M University and moved to College Station while Vane stayed to finish high school and eventually moved to Lubbock, TX to attend Texas Tech University. It is a 7 hour drive away by car, which neither of them had in college. The next 8 years would consist of long distance FaceTime calls, brief reunions over the holidays, and even different time zones at one point.
When they both finished school, they decided it was finally time to end long distance and be together! They both moved to the midwest for a year while Carlos completed his Pharmacy Residency in Indiana. When that year was over they quickly drove back to Texas and decided it was now time to commit… so they got a dog! Concha came into their lives and it resulted in Vet, ER, and Orthopedic visits to which had Vane convinced she was probably not getting a ring for another 10 years.

Carlos y Vane mantuvieron una relación a distancia durante ocho años y medio. Como su aniversario es el 31 de enero, nunca lo celebraron juntos, ya que era después del comienzo del semestre de primavera. Carlos and Vane did long distance for 8 and a half years. Since their anniversary is on January 31st, they never spent their anniversary together as it was after the start of the Spring semester. They started a tradition of celebrating “half anniversaries”: with the summer break, they were always home for July 31st. They continued to celebrate their half anniversaries even after long distance ended.
For their 10th half year anniversary, Carlos had a plan. Vane got all dressed up and ready for the day when Carlos changed the plans to supposedly celebrate his friends birthday at the Botanical Gardens.
Vane was a little annoyed to be walking around a park in heels in Texas heat in the middle of summer, but soon was surprised when they reached a waterfall with flowers waiting for her. Carlos got on one knee and FINALLY asked Vane to marry him with the most gorgeous ring.
After a photoshoot of a long awaited moment, Facetiming family and friends, and a margarita Carlos told Vane he had reservations for a private dinner to celebrate their engagement. They arrived at the restaurant only to be surprised by both of their families for an engagement celebration. There were many happy tears, happy memories, and happy wishes shared at that table that night.
